Spain: a country to discover by walk
Spain has a network of 15 national parks. They cover a surface of almost 350.000 ha (that is a little bit more than 0,6% of the total surface of the country). Next to the national parks, there are 132 natural parks, protecting more than 3 million ha of natural ground. In Andalucia, for example, this net of parks means more than 16% of the territorium, and in Asturias it reaches almost 19% of the land! Each park offers protection to some different kind of natural value: a landscape, an endemic species, a geographical curiosity, an ecosystem,...something unique. There are big forest, deep gorges, valleys, high mountains, volcanos, gletsers, deserts, reefs, wetlands, islands, huge caves,...
Each national park has something special. Doñana has the lynx, Ordesa has an impressive glaciar valley, Aigües-Tortes has thousands of alpine lakes, Grazalema has the Pinsapo spar, Teide is a huge volcano, Picos de Europa has the last bears of Spain,...all of them worth a visit!
